Company profile (Feeling Software)
With its 3D and Mobile technologies, Feeling Software broadens the reach of the video surveillance ecosystem to new levels of accessibility and context. |
|
iGuard and Omnicast
Feeling Software recently launched iGuard, a mobile surveillance app for iPod Touch and iPhone users in the security industry. Designed to be fully compatible with Omnicast IP Video Surveillance, the iGuard app leverages the intuitive touchscreen interface of Apple's iPod Touch and iPhone, making multi-camera Omnicast surveillance systems available to security personnel on the go, via wireless connectivity. With the flick of a finger, security officers can now easily scan through all their cameras in Omnicast, tap the screen to select the live camera that they need, and even move and zoom the camera in, in real time. More than that, users can view Omnicast's video archives and playback recorded video footage from any location. |
|
 |
iGuard Capabilities
The iGuard App is an innovative app developed by Feeling Software and is currently only compatible with Omnicast. Therefore, an Omnicast server and an iGuard server need to be installed. Here is a list of its capabilities:
- Access the full list of cameras in your system with a preview thumbnail for each.
- Control Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras.
- View live or archived video feeds.
- Transmit through a secure and encrypted connection.

By Charlie Smith, Manager of Parking Enforcement at the University of Texas
Company Overview
Founded in 1881, the University of Texas in Austin is the largest institution in the University of Texas System. Offering over 100 undergraduate degree programs and more than 170 graduate degree programs, currently, the University of Texas is home to more than 50,000 students, 2,900 faculty and 21,000 staff members. With 350 acres of land located just outside Austin's downtown core, the University consists of over 150 buildings and 15,000 parking spaces that includes 9 parking garages.
Current System and Use
Previous Parking Enforcement System: Manual Verification
Current Parking Enforcement System: Dual-mounted AutoVu LPR solution
Adoption Date of New System: April 2008
Use of New System: Scofflaw Identification
What were the procedures in place before acquiring the AutoVu system?
"Our guards would ride around the campus parking districts on bikes, or trucks or mopeds, and manually verify vehicle permits. We had a system in place, where we would use a PDA to write up tickets which was connected via bluetooth to a portable printer on our belt." |
|
 |
What were the key drivers for acquiring the new AutoVu system?
"We looked at the LPR system to control scofflaws at major events held by the University. We have about 2200 events in a year, and non-local visitors would come for say the Texas Relays, a huge state track meet here at the University and park where they could find a space, without respecting our parking regulations. When they would be issued tickets, they would basically wad it up and throw it back at us not thinking that they would be returning next year. So that was our main motivator- to be able to run license plates during a major event, to find people that had outstanding tickets."
What convinced you that AutoVu was the best choice for the University of Texas?
"We had a Genetec representative come to the University during a basketball tournament with a portable AutoVu demo system, so we mounted on our trucks and played with it. We loaded our scofflaw list in the system and we immediately starting getting hits with the system and booting cars. At this point, we were already interested in the LPR technology and just wanted to see if our investment would be worthwhile, if this technology would do what we wanted it to do. Boy, did it work! We did send out a bid for other LPR technologies, but Genetec came in as the most competitive in terms of pricing and features."
What are some of the features that you like about the AutoVu system?
"[The AutoVu system] is user friendly, with a touchscreen interface that is very easy to use and easy to see. As the driver is going down the street, he can just stop, get out and adjust the camera angle with no trouble [and…] mounting of the system on the vehicle made it simple for installation."
Results
- 35% increase in boots from previous manual verification.
- All campus parking facilities can now be checked in 24-hour period.
- Stricter enforcement of parking facility, more available spaces for paying customers.
- Increased level of service for paying permit holders.

"Synergis is able to enrol hundreds of custom card formats even if the actual format is unknown. This facilitates the retrofit of an existing installation with the Synergis access control solution to continue the use of the cards in place. With other products, the cards have to be replaced if the format is unknown." - John Joyce, Director Business Development, Synergis.
John Joyce is the Director of Business Development for Synergis access control solution at Genetec. With over 15 years of experience in the security industry, John has held previous sales management/business development roles at manufacturers such as AMAG and Bioscrypt. |
