Three Simple Ways to Optimize Your Bandwidth Management in Video Surveillance
Genetec Whitepaper

Although an organization's IT infrastructure is typically built to handle large amounts of data, including that of video surveillance applications, many operators are not fully leveraging the functionalities of their investments to optimize bandwidth capacity. Multicasting, multistreaming and video compression are three innovative methods that users can use to optimize bandwidth management in video surveillance applications.

With a technologically advanced video management software (VMS), users can leverage existing hardware and software functionalities to experience benefits such as reduction in bandwidth requirements, optimization of network resources, and decrease of storage needs. Multicasting, multistreaming and video compression as supported by a highly intelligent VMS ultimately contribute to significant cost savings and long-term investment protection.

About ObjectVideo OnBoard
ObjectVideo actively detects, classifies and tracks objects within the video, then immediately generates useful output for a wide variety of situations. With ObjectVideo Onboard, the analytics are completely embedded in the IP camera or other device. There is no need to deploy additional servers as the analytics use the resources available on the device to process the user-defined analytic rules. .

Object Video OnBoard and Omnicast 4.5
Using the OV Ready protocol, the configuration and management of the rules and events for ObjectVideo OnBoard can be done by using Omnicast's client interface, instead of separate GUI. Omnicast also simplifies the management of triggered events based on their classification, i.e., intrusion, object left or removed, camera tampering, loitering, etc. Depending on the type of event, Omnicast can be programmed with specific actions, such as generating an alarm to a group of users, displaying the video to specific operators or providing a procedure for handling the particular event. These events are also stored by Omnicast and users can conduct after-the-fact investigations, searching based on type of event through Genetec's Archive Player.

Supported Devices Enabled with ObjectVideo OnBoard:
Pelco IXE20DN, IXE20C megapixel IP cameras and a variety of Lanaccess onSafe models of encoders and intelligent appliances.
