Genetec Inc. was incorporated in 1997 and continues to be a privately owned and funded Canadian company. At its inception, Genetec was a software research and development company. The president, Mr. Pierre Racz, had the foresight to see the potential in the world of physical security and devised a security solution fully based on IP. This solution was to be founded on all the latest networking technology in order to create a truly advanced video surveillance system. Omnicast™ was the name given to this revolutionary new system.

In 2005, Genetec decided to diversify its product offering by introducing, amongst others, Synergis™, an innovative IP Access Control System. Genetec also acquired controlling interest in AutoVu, leaders in license plate recognition technology. Offering new products was a decision based on Genetec’s perpetual commitment to offer the latest IP solutions to its customers.
