Providing video surveillance of diverse environments

Schneider Electric is modernizing and unifying its on-site video surveillance with Genetec™ Security Center, an open, scalable platform that adapts to the needs of its diverse locations.

Company profile

Schneider Electric is a global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, designing innovative solutions to optimize the energy and operational performance of its customers. The company operates in over 100 countries and has 160,000 employees, with 15,000 people working at about 100 sites in France, ranging from simple sales offices to critical industrial facilities.

The challenge

Schneider Electric faced two main challenges: harmonizing its physical security across all sites while meeting the unique needs of each location. Until 2018, the company used a rigid proprietary system that did not meet modern standards for cybersecurity, scalability, or centralized monitoring. To unify video surveillance while maintaining flexible operations, Schneider Electric decided to overhaul its strategy.

The solution

A gradual migration thanks to an open platform

Schneider Electric adopted the unified Genetec Security Center platform, including the Omnicast™ IP video management solution, based on advice from its partner Fiducial. Early pilots showed how Security Center could integrate existing cameras, making it possible to replace them gradually with more efficient models, one site at a time.

Centralized supervision and a flexible strategy

Schneider Electric uses three security levels: remote monitoring for small sites, security agents for intermediate sites, and 24/7 monitoring for the most critical sites. All devices are also remotely supervised from a central station via Federation™, Genetec technology that unifies security systems in a single interface. By working closely with Genetec and Fiducial, Schneider Electric maintains coordinated and adaptable security management across all its facilities.

“End users particularly appreciate the intuitiveness of the Genetec interface, the ease of operation and the solution's ability to adapt to each type of site.”

Jimmy Savoy, Security Manager France at Schneider Electric

The results

Genetec Security Center is already in use or being deployed at nearly half of Schneider Electric’s French sites. This is a key step in modernizing the company's security. Employees praise the solution’s intuitive interface, simplified operation, and adaptability to all types of environments. The platform is now the company standard for video surveillance in France and will support the integration of new technologies like intercoms, RAPI, and access control in the years to come.
