Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport builds a scalable security foundation
A $43M terminal upgrade changed more than the passenger experience at Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport. Find out how choosing a unified, open platform helped them strengthen security, improve operations, and be ready for future business expansions.
Key outcomes
- An open platform gives the team flexibility to add new systems and support new carriers and routes
- A single interface lets a small team manage video, access control, and alarms more efficiently
- Mobile access and quick search help resolve incidents in minutes
- A scalable foundation keeps the airport ready for new business and SA requirements
The company
Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport (RKS) is a commercial and general aviation airport located outside of Rock Springs in Sweetwater County, Wyoming. RKS currently supports over 11,000 annual flight operations and provides air service connectivity for over 50,000 passengers to and from Denver, Colorado, every year. Sweetwater Aviation, a fixed-based operator, also operates onsite, offering various services for private aircraft and charters. Recently, the airport completed a $43 million Commercial Terminal Modernization Project. Today, RKS offers an upgraded travel experience, putting it on par with some of the best airports in the state.
The challenge
With the new terminal build underway, the RKS team took the opportunity to modernize their physical security infrastructure. The legacy video and access control systems no longer met modern standards, and the team had growth in mind. They needed an open, flexible solution ready to support new carriers, larger aircrafts, and more TSA compliance requirements. Having the freedom to choose their own devices, add integrations, and do more over time was a must. With a small team wearing multiple hats, ease of use was also essential. Ultimately, the security platform had to work for them today and support whatever came next.
“Genetec Security Center brings everything into one place, which helps us manage security and airport operations much more efficiently than before. And, we’re only scratching the surface of what the system can do. This is the foundation we needed to keep adding capabilities and enhancing our operations.”
Devon Brubaker, Airport Director at Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport
Why Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport chose Genetec
The RKS team wanted modern video and access control systems that gave them the freedom to choose devices and expand operations over time. They also needed an easy-to-use platform that they could access from anywhere. They turned to their integrator, Incline Technology, which designed and deployed a solution built on Genetec™ Security Center.
“Incline Technology listened to us and delivered a system that exceeded our expectations,” said Brubaker.
The solution
Unifying airport security in one platform
With Security Center, the RKS team now has full visibility into their different facilities. All video and access control is consolidated in one platform, helping them keep an eye on airport operations and respond quickly to events. Working with Incline Technology, the RKS team also configured role-based permissions for various airport staff, TSA personnel, and other contractors to ensure each person only has access to areas relevant to their job. If needed, the team can also pull access logs to support compliance or investigations.
Getting anywhere, anytime mobile access
Key stakeholders at RKS who have access to the security platform can easily retrieve video and address alarms remotely. This helps them respond to issues no matter where they are.
“Being able to check video or respond to events from anywhere has been a real game-changer for our small team. Whether I’m away from my desk, at home, or traveling, I can see what’s happening and take action,” said Brubaker.
Speeding up investigations with quick search
With Security Center, the RKS team handles investigations in less time. Whether there’s a theft reported in the terminal or damage on the airfield, they use the quick search feature to find out what happened in minutes. The tool helps them quickly narrow in on when events took place and get to the bottom of incidents faster.
“After a reported theft in our market, I was able to zoom in on the exact product and used the quick search to track when the inventory changed. Within minutes, we confirmed the item wasn’t stolen; it was purchased but mislabeled. I use quick search a lot because it saves me so much time,” explained Brubaker.
Optimizing operations with new integrations
According to Nic Hasler, Founder and President of Incline Technology, “Our vision from the start was to deliver a system for RKS that’s easy to operate and support, and ready for future expansion. That extends beyond just video surveillance and access control to include a resilient back-end infrastructure that can scale alongside their needs. No matter how business demands evolve, we can help RKS quickly adapt and keep modernizing operations.”

“We might be a small airport, but investing in Genetec Security Center allows us to operate with the capabilities of a much larger one. The platform helps us work more efficiently today and gives us the flexibility to support new opportunities in the future.”

Results
Incline Technology delivered the full solution for RKS in under five months and completed installation within a month. Running PoE connectivity to every camera and door helped cut costs, speed up deployment, simplify future expansions, and strengthen cybersecurity. The Incline team built the system to be resilient and easy to support day-to-day. Using custom APIs and PoE cycling, the team can remotely monitor and restore system components so issues are fixed quickly without disrupting airport operations.
Currently, RKS uses Security Center to manage 64 cameras and 22 doors, with over 130 individual sensors and plenty of room for expansion. “There’s so much more we can do with Security Center, and we’re always looking at what’s next. With this platform, we can add new carriers or flight routes, expand our security operations, and be ready for higher TSA requirements. The hardware and software are in place,” said Brubaker.
