Most video analytics require security teams to define rules, draw zones, and set thresholds before anything can be detected. icetana AI works differently. Its self-learning AI builds a baseline of normal behaviour for each camera scene within 24 hours of deployment, then continuously and automatically flags everything that deviates from it, across every connected camera.

For Genetec Security Center users, icetana integrates as an additive layer. The icetana VMS Bridge connects to the GSC deployment via Genetec's WebSDK, automatically synchronising cameras controlled by a dedicated GSC Partition every 5 minutes. Cameras added, removed, or renamed in Genetec are reflected in icetana without manual intervention, and there is no need to replace cameras, change storage architecture, or modify existing Genetec workflows.

When icetana detects unusual activity, such as perimeter breaches, trips and falls, loitering, or crowd-related incidents, it automatically sends events back to Genetec Security Center. Active incidents can trigger Security Desk alarms and existing automation workflows, while completed events are saved as bookmarks for easy investigation and playback. Operators can also access icetana's Livewall, Highlights, and Analytics views directly within Security Desk, providing a seamless experience without additional screens or applications.

Retail & Shopping Centres

icetana AI improves security, safety, and operational awareness across retail environments by automatically detecting unusual and unexpected behaviour. The platform helps shopping centres and retailers identify suspicious activity, loitering, crowd formation, perimeter breaches, trips and falls, after-hours access, and other incidents that may require investigation. With Hazard Detection and Aggressive Behaviour Detection, icetana
also identifies environmental hazards, such as spills, obstructions, and smoke, and signs of physical aggression or altercations between people, alerting teams before situations escalate. By highlighting anomalies in real time, icetana enables security teams to respond faster, protect customers and assets, improve operational efficiency, and manage large retail environments more effectively.

Universities & Campuses

icetana AI helps universities improve campus safety and security by automatically detecting unusual and unexpected behaviour across buildings, walkways, parking areas, and public spaces. The platform identifies potential security incidents, unauthorised access, crowd formation, suspicious activity, and safety concerns in real time, enabling security teams to respond quickly, protect students and staff, and maintain a secure campus environment while monitoring more cameras with fewer resources.

Solution Architecture

The icetana AI VMS Bridge component is hosted on the icetana AI Safety & Security server and connects to the GSC deployment via Genetec’s WebSDK role. Cameras are discovered and periodically synchronised via the WebSDK using a dedicated GSC user account and Partition. Live video is consumed from the GSC Media Gateway role via encrypted RTSPS streams (one per camera).
Detected events of interest are pushed back to GSC as bookmarks (for concluded events) and custom events (for in-progress events). These custom events can be configured to trigger alarms in Security Desk using existing Event-to-Action & Automation rules. All integration settings are managed via icetana’s web-based configuration interface. No additional client software is required on the Genetec side, and only one SDK connection is required per icetana server.
