Centralized video management for improved efficiency
Since 2001, Nantes Métropole has evolved their Genetec system. Originally, they integrated OminicastTM video management to monitor access to pedestrian zones, later using the solution to regulate vehicle traffic too. More recently, they unified the video management system for better visibility and functionality.

The customer
Nantes Métropole is an urban area located in the Loire-Atlantique department, in France's Pays de la Loire region. The City is composed of 24 municipalities and is home to more than 600,000 people.
The challenge
The first Genetec Omnicast cameras were installed in Nantes Métropole in 2001. They were initially used to monitor access to pedestrian zones, where retractable bollards could be lowered for authorized vehicles. In 2006, a new Traffic PC project was launched, to enable the monitoring and regulation of car traffic in real-time. Public transport images were later added in 2009. Genetec Security Center has been used in Nantes Métropole since 2017. The unified security platform centralizes all video management at the new Urban Supervision Control Center (Centre de Supervision Urbain - CSU), and supports the police force and fire service.
The solution
Coordinating the video surveillance hubs
Omnicast allows the operator to manage 35 cameras, which are used to monitor vehicle access to pedestrian zones.
Extending coverage to main roads
Omnicast also includes video surveillance equipment specifically for traffic management, as well as images from public transport and the Nantes ring road.
Switching over to Genetec Security Center for improved security
The Urban Supervision Control Center (Centre de Supervision Urbain - CSU) of Nantes Métropole relies on Genetec Security Center to streamline police support and fire service responses.

“Our goal is for each security stakeholder to utilize the tool in their investigations, so that Nantes can be one of the most secure urban areas.”
Catherine Ménétré, CSU Manager, Nantes Métropole
The results
Genetec Security Center and Omnicast enable operators in Nantes Métropole to effectively manage all of their video-related optimization and security activities. With equipment specifically for road traffic and control of access to pedestrian zones, can visualize and regulate car traffic in real-time, as well as visually approve requests for access to pedestrian zones for vehicles without badges.
The CSU is equipped with a video wall made up of 12 screens. They are continuously monitored around the clock. Each operator also has a workstation, which is fitted with three screens. Two of these display a range of images, while the third is used to select which areas to monitor more closely. This system lets operators remain alert to crimes or incidents, and notify the police or the fire service so that they can quickly intervene.
