The City of Vic, located between the Mediterranean sea and the Pyrenees mountains, is home to more than 40,000 residents. With a central location, about 70 km from Barcelona and 60 km from Girona, Vic is one of the most important cities in the province of Catalonia. The city is also an administrative and service center for the Osona area. With a rich history and culture, Vic is home to world-renowned festivals, markets, and the University of Vic.
To protect a continuously growing population, the city began to look for a solution that would be more efficient than the existing video wall in the central command center. Specifically, the city needed a solution that would let them centralize all the control elements scattered throughout the municipality and integrate them with existing infrastructure. The challenge was to find ways to make security improvements while also providing officers with training, and all this with a shrinking budget.
“Since implementing Security Center, we have broadened our security officials’ situational awareness. We now have valuable information that lets us reduce intervention time and improve responses to any situation. We’ve also been able to take advantage of existing municipal video surveillance infrastructure while also incorporating state-of-the-art technologies.”
Antoni Jurjo, Chief Inspector of Local Police, City of Vic
Today, the City of Vic is using Security Center to manage various solutions including video surveillance, video analytics, access control, and intrusion detection from a single command center. With Security Center Omnicast™, Vic has unified the monitoring of various CCTV cameras scattered throughout the municipality. The team is also utilising Security Center Synergis™ to manage the access control systems installed in the city’s public buildings.
Security Center has helped the City of Vic respond to incidents and alerts in a more effective manner. Using a single, unified, interface the city has optimized both their time and resources.
Centralized command center
Through a single location, operators can see what’s happening across the municipality. From traffic control to citizen security, operators remain alert and ready.
Scaling with time
The open architecture from Security Center allows Vic to use existing video surveillance cameras, while remaining open to the future modernization of their IT infrastructures.
